About Alcohol-Free Retreats.
Welcome to Alcohol-Free Retreats – a sanctuary for professionals, seekers and anyone ready to explore life beyond alcohol. Our retreats are a unique collaboration between two passionate leaders in the sober wellness space: Rory Kinsella, founder of Wise Monkey Way, and Alexandra McRobert, Sober Yoga Girl and creator of The Mindful Life Practice. Together, we offer immersive experiences that blend meditation, yoga, and community to help you reconnect with yourself and reimagine your relationship with alcohol.
Meet Rory Kinsella – Meditation Teacher & Sober Coach.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Rory Kinsella is the founder of Wise Monkey Way, one of the world’s only meditation-centric approaches to sobriety. A former journalist and media executive, Rory spent two decades in high-pressure environments before discovering Vedic Meditation in 2014. This simple, mantra-based practice not only transformed his stress levels but also naturally reduced his desire to drink. By 2017, he had quit alcohol entirely and began teaching others how to do the same.
Rory’s approach is designed for high-functioning professionals who are successful in their careers but feel stuck in unhealthy drinking patterns. His approach combines daily meditation, intention-setting, self-reflection and community support to help individuals regain control and clarity in their lives. He has taught meditation at some of Australia’s largest companies and continues to support clients worldwide through his online programs and retreats.
Meet Alexandra McRobert – Yoga Teacher & Sober Mentor.
Alex McRobert, also known as Sober Yoga Girl, is a Canadian yoga teacher, entrepreneur, and founder of The Mindful Life Practice. After years of teaching abroad and struggling with her own relationship with alcohol, Alex quit drinking in 2019 and dedicated herself to helping others do the same through yoga and mindfulness.
Now based in Bali, Alex runs the Mindful Life Practice Bali Retreat Centre, leads yoga teacher trainings, and hosts the Sober Yoga Girl Podcast. Her programs, including the Sober Girls Yoga community, support women worldwide in building consistent yoga practices and exploring sobriety in a compassionate, non-judgmental space.
Why We Created Alcohol-Free Retreats.
Rory and Alexandra first connected in 2020 through their shared philosophies on sobriety and wellness. After collaborating on podcasts and online programs, they met in person in Ubud, Bali, in 2023 and quickly realised the potential of combining their approaches. Their first joint retreat in 2024 was a resounding success, leading to the creation of Alcohol-Free Retreats.
Our retreats are designed to be inclusive, supportive and transformative. Whether you’re sober-curious, in early sobriety, or looking to deepen your practice, you’ll find a welcoming community and expert guidance. Each retreat offers daily yoga and meditation sessions, workshops on habit change and self-inquiry, and plenty of time for rest and reflection in beautiful, serene settings.
